How Do I Make This Private Practice Thing Work?

There is a massive movement involving therapists entering the private practice realm. Whether you are brand new, or currently building your practice, you want to know how to get more clients and how to establish a successful practice.

I’m John Harrison.  I have been in private practice for almost 5 years.  And in that time I’ve learned building a lasting private practice is less about what you do and more about who you are and how you communicate that in your therapy and in your business and brand.

I gathered three of the most successful private practice experts in the field to answer the tough questions about what therapists need to build their businesses.

In the video we jump right in and talk about:

The things that HAVE to be emphasized and prioritized before any of the fancy, shiny, marketing tactics will work for you.  Basically, we’re going to lay out a new mindset that we feel is crucial to you on a business and personal level so you can focus on what’s important to you and why you decided to do this in the first place.

Knowing Your Money Story

If you don’t understand your relationship to money, you won’t know how it plays out in your business and life.  What your money story means to you.

Knowing Your Why

Do you love your private practice business or do you love the idea of it?  What is important to you?  What do you value and what do YOU want?  How comparison and jealousy of others is undermining your potential.

What’s Missing In Private Practice Building

Continuing the conversation

We must have lost our minds to start a private practice.  We left our stable jobs, benefits, and regular schedule.  We no longer have a team of colleagues to consult with and help measure our success.  What were we thinking?

Starting a private practice is quite possibly one of the most rewarding, life changing things a therapist can do.  It’s also terrifying at times.  Scarcity mindset draws us to “shiny” marketing tactics that leave us feeling disappointed or even like a failure.  What once was an exciting adventure can be a rollercoaster of self doubt and fear.

But it’s the things we avoid, or don’t talk about, that are the very things that are getting in the way of private practice therapists from loving their therapy business.  The self doubt, the envy, the comparison, the fear of being successful, the things we don’t even expect when we start our own business venture.

I’ve often said that starting a private practice business is the ultimate self growth laboratory.  Not only can we learn how to be better business minded people, but we can grow as people and therapists.  That benefits us and our clients.  People need you to step up and out of your shell and into your full potential as a professional and as an example of what being a fully empowered therapist and person can look like.
